Chicago born artist Richard Sedivy emerged from the reductive exercises of Minimalism. He earned a BFA and an MFA at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and then moved west to set up a live-in studio in a corner storefront in old town Pasadena.

At the beckoning of college friends who were working in television, Richard got a job as a scenic painter at CBS Television, Hollywood. As an artist, he continued to develop his unique style, eventually finding gallery representation with Lelia Ivy, then Irit Kygier Gallery where he continued to be represented through much of the eighties. With other gallery representations along the way, he eventually landed with Lora Schlesinger Gallery where he showed for many years before her retirement.

Sedivy supported himself and his art practice with years of employment at CBS Television, first as a scenic artist painting sets and scenery, and later as a graphics artist producing computer graphics, hand drawn illustrations, and assorted props. He contributed to the production of many television shows, including The Sonny & Cher Show, All In The Family, The Carol Burnett Show, American Idol, Dancing With The Stars, and numerous variety, sitcom and talk shows.
