Moti’s art is “deceptively simple and pretty or, conversely, deceptively coarse and barren.” - Peter Frank

Mordechay (Moti) Cohen has been painting and drawing for over three decades. A graduate of the Tel Aviv Academy of Art, Moti’s work is reminiscent of Israeli abstract expressionism, representing a more classical yet deeply emotional aesthetic than the Israeli or even international mainstream. He works intuitively, without prior planning, until a theme, an idea, or a vision finds him.

He primarily uses industrial materials like tar, black ink, and colored paints, whatever most vividly expresses his feelings at the moment. For Moti, “A good painting is one that manages to arouse the viewer's interest and thought. My works are enigmatic stories whose details I do not know.”
