BENTE CHRISTENSEN

carefree abandon, curiosity, joy, optimism

Born in Marin County, California to Danish immigrants,

I started painting with my musician father at age 4. I studied Theatre Arts Design, receiving a BA from San Francisco State University and headed to Los Angeles with a scholarship to study costume design with Edith Head at FIDM. At FIDM, I began teaching costume and set design for Pasadena City College and Pasadena Summer Playhouse before working in the T.V. & Film Industry. During my tenure in Hollywood, I designed costumes for Earth, Wind & Fire’s world tour and was nominated for six Television Daytime Emmy awards as an Art Director/ Production Designer. I continued painting in my studio and decided to paint full-time when the pandemic began.. My background in architectural design is reflected in my bold and textured painting style. I'm drawn to bold, colorful Abstract compositions, incorporating architectural lines with whimsical elements, creating movement and depth. I'm a huge Mid-Century Modern fan and love to create compelling narratives where the observer can feel carefree abandon, curiosity, joy and optimism.
